Talison Lithium supports the community in a variety of ways including financial and in-kind assistance for community programs and projects, tourism, environmental activities, schools and educational programs. Proactive community relations programs help provide additional economic and social benefits for the communities and regions surrounding Talison Lithium’s operations.
Greenbushes Lithium Operations
Talison Lithium supports the community surrounding the Greenbushes Lithium Operations including the local town of Greenbushes and two other residential neighbouring towns, Bridgetown and Donnybrook, through a variety of activies and programs.
The Greenbushes Lithium Operations has been closely involved with the Greenbushes Discovery Centre since its inception in the mid 1990s. Talison Lithium is proud to be involved in this proactive community project which promotes not only the Greenbushes community but also local industries, including the mining industry as a whole.
Greenbushes Primary School
Significant support is given to the local primary school and Talison Lithium employees are involved in a number of joint environmental and community based projects with the school including Clean-up Australia Day, National School’s Tree Day and the annual biological monitoring of the Greenbushes Pool for the Waterwatch Ribbons of Blue project. Another important cooperative venture is the Community Co-Mingled Recycling Scheme which is jointly run by Talison Lithium and the school.
Public Mine Lookout
The Public Mine Lookout gives a birds-eye-view of the Greenbushes Lithium Operations and is popular with the local community and visitors. Open daily, it provides easy to understand and readily available information about the operations via display panels. The lookout is visited by thousands of people each year and provides one of the few opportunities in Western Australia for the public to view an operational mine site.
As part of its commitment to the community and the industry, Talison Lithium offers tours of the Greenbushes Lithium Operations for schools, tertiary institutions, special interest groups and seniors in Western Australia. Up to 1,000 students visit the Greenbushes Lithium Operations each year as part of this organised programme.
Talison Lithium provides a display showcasing the Greenbushes Lithium Operations at various community events in the South West region. These include the Bridgetown Agricultural Show, Balingup Small Farm Field Day and Bunbury Port Open Day. Employees volunteer their time at the display tent which showcases the mining processes, final products and the environmental and community initiatives undertaken by Talison Lithium.
